Hiking and adventure trip through Tusheti

Day 1 - Tbilisi – Gareji semi-desert – Telavi

Early departure to the wine region of Georgia – Kakheti. Visit to the rock monasteries from the 6th–8th centuries in the semi-desert of Gareji. An impressive and picturesque landscape...

After the hike, continue to Telavi, the capital of Kakheti. The eye is drawn to the numerous wineries offering a rich selection of dry endemic wines from Qvevri – the traditional Georgian amphora.

Visit to a beautifully located winery with views of the Greater Caucasus. Early dinner and wine tasting.

Overnight stay in Telavi. (D)

Day 2 - Telavi – Omalo

Early departure to Omalo, the administrative center of the mountainous region of Tusheti. The approximately 100 km long adventurous drive with breathtaking views takes about 5 hours.

After checking into a family-run hotel, enjoy a pleasant walk to the Kesselo Towers.

Dinner and overnight stay in Omalo. (B/D)

Day 3 - Schenako – Diklo

Drive and hike towards the Dagestan border to the villages of Shenako and Diklo. Lunch break in the village of Shenako.

Return to Omalo. (B/D)

Day 4 - Dartlo, Kvavlo, Dano, Girevi, Chontio

After checking out, drive to Dartlo, the most beautiful village in Tusheti. Here, the original village architecture is still well preserved, making it a popular photo spot.

From Dartlo, hike up to the abandoned village of Kvavlo, which resembles an open-air museum with its old houses, towers, and sacred sites. Continue hiking to the village of Dano, where Tushetian pagan shrines have been preserved to this day. Throughout the journey, enjoy breathtaking mountain panoramas.

Drive to Girevi. Hike towards Chontio. The Chechen border is not far from here.

Day 5 - Gomezari – valley, Botschorna village

Drive to the Gomezari Valley. Hike to the village of Botschorna (2345m above sea level), the highest village in Georgia. From here there are beautiful views of the area. Return to Omalo. (B/D)

Day 6 - Kumelaurta – Oreti Lake

Ride from Omalo to the village of Kumelaurta and then continue to Oreti Lake (2650m above sea level). From the lake, enjoy a breathtaking view of all of Tusheti and the Greater Caucasus. In the morning and evening, you may spot deer, lynx, brown bears, and more. Return to Omalo. (B/D)

Day 7 - Omalo -Alaverdi – Tbilissi

Departure towards Tbilisi. Stop on the way in the village of Alaverdi. Visit the Main Cathedral of Kakheti. Time for a lunch break. Arrival in Tbilisi.
